Keep Your Fitness Routine Fun

Music matters. Change up your music! Create several playlists and try a new one for each fitness routine. Try some new genres that you might not normally listen to, but that you just can’t resist moving to!

Bring a friend. Find a workout partner and keep a few extras on standby. Family members, co-workers, and neighbors make great workout buddies. You may be able to find a gym membership that allows you to bring a guest each time you go. If not, ask about guest passes.

Switch It Up! It’s easy to get comfortable doing the exercises you are most familiar with, but it’s important to try new ones. Another option is simply altering the order of exercises. Simply changing which exercise you do first, last and in the middle can have big results on the effectiveness of your fitness routine.

Try Something Different. Try classes such as yoga, Zumba, spinning or even pole dancing. When one class starts to get too familiar, try another. Change the way you work out frequently to keep your fitness routine fresh and make each trip to the gym exciting.

Change Your Fitness Routine Schedule. It may sound strange, but your body will respond to a change in the time of day or days of the week that your exercise. Overall, it’s about constantly confusing our bodies so we never hit that plateau we all hate so much. If that means switching the days and times you do your workouts, then give it a try!

Circuit training requires you to perform a series of exercise moves targeting different muscle groups one right after the other with little to no rest between exercises. Ultimately, it allows you to burn more calories, keep your heart rate elevated, and incorporate more exercises in a shorter amount of time.

Buy a New Outfit. Cotton clothes tend to hold on to moisture, becoming wet and uncomfortable long before the end of your fitness routine. Proper workout gear will act like a wick, soaking up the sweat and pulling it away from your body. Feeling good and looking great will give you the confidence you need to give your all to your fitness routine.

Take It Outside. Get outside and breathe some fresh air. Take a break from the stuffy gym and move your workout routine outdoors. Go for a run at your favorite park or play a sport with some friends.

Variety Is the Spice of Life. If you do a lot of walking as part of your fitness routine, add some variety. Try a walk at the beach or at a park. If that’s not possible, try walking in a new neighborhood instead of your own.

Change of scenery. Looking at the same wall in the gym or in the corner of your living room can get pretty boring pretty quickly. Try changing your fitness routine location completely by moving from your home to a gym, or even changing gyms.

Areas For Fitness Training Recommended By The Mayo Clinic

A report has been released by the Mayo Clinic that identifies five (5) areas that need to be targeted for a balanced fitness program. The areas identified in the report include 1) aerobic fitness, 2) muscular fitness, 3) stretching, 4) core stability and 5) balance training. Each item will be discussed below.

1. Aerobic Fitness:
Aerobic fitness is often called cardiovascular fitness. Aerobic fitness is essential to weight loss and total fitness because it helps the lungs, heart and blood vessels move oxygen through the system more efficiently.

Aerobic or cardiovasculr exercise should be done at least two and one half (2-1/2) hours each week for a moderate aerobic activity or at least seventy five (75) minutes for vigorous exercise. Aerobic exercises should be spread throughout the week.

2. Muscular Fitness:
Muscular fitness exercise should be done at least two to three times during the week. Muscular exercises help with muscular fitness along with increasing bone strength. Muscular strength is necessary as we grow older.

Equipment is not necessary to maintain muscular fitness if you have a fitness program that includes body strengthening exercises like push-ups, chin ups and squats along with others.

3. Stretching:
Stretching is sometimes forgotten but it is critical for a well rounded program. All fitness coaches recommend that stretching be included in their fitness programs. All exercises make the muscles contract and flex so stretching of the muscles also needs to be included for a well rounded workout.

Stretching is especially important for the later years to keep the body flexible to avoid a lot of the injuries that accompany old age.

4. Core Stability:
Core muscles are those in the body and include the abdomen muscles, lower back and the pelvis area. They should be included in fitness programs because they are needed for upper and lower body movements.

5. Balance Training:
Balance is often forgotten in physical fitness programs but it needs to be included in a well rounded program. Balance is essential to everyday life functions and it tends to deteriorate with age so it imperative that a good program be maintained.

Developing a good balance training regimen will add quality to life.

Mayo Clinic has identified these five (5) areas as being essential to a complete fitness program so it is important that all the items be included in the fitness program. Incorporate all five (5) elements into everyday life and it will go a long way to insure better health.

It’s all about pregnancy and Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a condition when there is high blood sugar recognized during pregnancy. Almost 4% of all pregnancies women face the same issue. Due to hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy, there is some degree of impaired glucose intolerance for all women. It shows that the blood sugar level is higher than the normal lady but it is not that high like diabetes. But when you are at third trimester of pregnancy then the chances goes at the height of causing the diabetes problem. Gestational diabetes is kind of diabetes when a lady is having high level of blood sugar at the pregnancy period. It can become sometimes risky. So, you do care and keep checking yourself time to time.

During pregnancy, some hormonal increase in placenta helps to shift nutrition from mom to developing fetus. Rest hormones are generates in the placenta which is helpful for mother as saves from developing low blood sugar. They work by the resistance of insulin action. As the pregnancy grows, the hormones leads to progressive weakened glucose fanaticism and for decrease in blood sugar levels body made more insulin to use that glucose into cells as energy.

Would be Mom’s pancreas can make more insulin and this is around three times more than the normal amount and is sufficient to overcome the effects of pregnancy hormones over the levels of blood sugar. In case, pancreas is not able to make sufficient insulin then you can get arise in blood sugar level and that is gestational diabetes. When you are caught with the problem then it can put effect over the developing fetus. If you are diagnosed with diabetes in early pregnancy then the baby in the womb can have birth defects or even miscarriage. The birth defects can be occurring to heart and brain.

Ladies who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes at the second and third trimester then it can give way to over nutrition and sometimes excess growth of baby. If the baby is larger enough than it increases the risk at the time of labor as well as delivery. So, you have to eat right and try to depend over herbal remedy diabetes for keep the weight of baby under control.

If you are overweight than can be easily caught with gestational diabetes. Some people have sugar in urine or the member of high risk ethnic group or have family history of diabetes are at the highest risk of having the diabetes and the easy solution available here is herbal remedy diabetes and so you have to depend over that. Ladies who have previously given birth to child over 9 pounds, over have gave birth to stillborn baby are also at huge risk of having the problem.

Jimmie Scott explains here that gestational diabetes is huge issues and risky too but if you are using herbal remedy diabetes than can keep the condition under control.

Why Vegetarians Are Less Healthy

Roughly, about 6% of the world’s population is vegetarian, a trend that is growing. Yet study after study shows that vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarians peers. Why is this so? Surely a diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables should make you healthier, not less healthy, so what’s going on?

In the light of extraordinary new research it is becoming apparent that most vegetarians are in fact less healthy than their non-vegetarian peers. By “peers” I mean people of a similar socio-economic and cultural background. Any valid comparison between vegetarians and non-vegetarians must compare apples with apples. For example, any study that compared an affluent health-conscious vegetarian from California with an impoverished meat eater from the slums of Calcutta is not likely to be meaningful.

Recent studies are clearly showing that compared to their non-vegetarians peers, vegetarians are more at risk of diseases such as infertility, cancer, heart disease, eating disorders, mental disease, and obesity.

Several studies have compared health-conscious vegetarians with health-conscious non-vegetarians from the same demographic (the same socio-economic, health-conscious cohort). In other words, scientists have compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians from similar backgrounds so as to validate the results and they have come up with some surprising conclusions.

For example, in a study of 76,000 people conducted over many years data from five studies were pooled into a very large collaborative analysis of mortality in vegetarians and non-vegetarians (Appleby PN, Key TJ, Thorogood M, Burr ML, Mann J. Mortality in British vegetarians. Public Health Nutr. 2002 Feb;5(1):29-36).

The Appleby Study compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians, adjusted for age, sex and smoking. The results for all-cause mortality showed no significant difference between vegetarians and their non-vegetarian peers. Many studies have shown that vegetarians live longer than the population at large, but the Appleby Study showed that this is not the case when you compare people within the same demographic. The study concluded that ‘Overall mortality was the same between vegetarians and non-vegetarians. But vegetarians had 2.2 times the death rate from mental and neurological diseases as non-vegetarians.’

Several studies have compared vegetarians and non-vegetarians within the same demographic and the research is clearly showing that vegetarians are at greater risk of heart disease, cancer, infertility and other diseases. As most studies have compared vegetarians with the population at large, this is not widely known; such studies provide a false picture because the population at large is not particularly health-conscious.

This begs the question: does this mean that eating animal products is good for health? The research on the whole says NO. So if vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarian peers, what is the reason? Why is it that vegetarians are less healthy than their non-vegetarians peers in the same demographic? This is the vegetarian paradox.

Childless People Who Know Everything…a Parent’s Worst Nightmare!

To be a parent is in many ways to belong to a unique club. Only once you’ve experienced the joys, hardships and sheer exhaustion, are you allowed to make the odd helpful comment to those that are coming up behind you. Now we all know there are some individuals out there whose comments are anything but helpful. Those types who glare at us in the grocery store when our youngest has decided to flip out over our choice of cereal. No, it doesn’t matter how you handle it, there’s always someone who thinks that they could have done it better than you. But let’s face it, the criticism parents face comes from many different areas of society and none irritates me more than hearing from the childless. Perhaps you’ve heard of that wonderful quote “I was a much better parent before I had children.” (Anonymous)

Yes, they know it all and we all have them, sisters, cousins, friends and they all know how to parent better than you. It’s enough to make you want to give them a wonderful dose of reality, a weekend with your kids when everybody’s sick and the washer has broken down…again. The kind of parental realism that’ll leave them tired, fed up and thoroughly penitent. In a perfect world, perhaps but how to deal with their comments in the meantime? Should one tactfully remind them that parenting is a 365 day a year job? That there are no days off and no sick days that you can crawl gratefully in to bed, whilst someone else keeps your three year old occupied with a simulating craft.

Parenting is, to use the words of Charles Dickens “the best of times and the worst of times.” It’s a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. It is a continuing adventure that for me, has been a privilege to have undertaken. Where else can you have such an enormous impact on the life of another? In what other endeavor can you learn so much about yourself? It’s like attempting the summit of K2 in a pair of runners and a windbreaker, surviving the inevitable storms and coming home battered but oh, so much better off for the journey.

So next time you get some tactless individual gracing you with their parental wisdom or lack of it, just smile, content in the knowledge they have not been where you have been. Nor have they been graced with such a monumental opportunity to experience life in all it’s shades. And remember, think yourself lucky because you are.

Why Parents Need To Check For Unhealthy Habits In Teens

Teenage is an immature phase in which kids knowingly or unknowingly get attracted towards various unhealthy habits like substance abuse. As a parent, it is your responsibility to keep a track on the habits that can degenerate their well-being. Here are some reasons why you should check for unhealthy habits in your teens.

Substance abuse is illegal:
Teens are easily prone to illicit drug abuse due to various risk factors. They also try to experiment with drugs out of curiosity. However, substance abuse is illegal. Not only usage, holding, sharing, purchasing and selling illicit drugs is forbidden. Your kids may face many legal issues if caught with illicit drug usage. Also, teens exposed to substance abuse are often suspended from schools. Therefore, it is very important to keep an eye on your kids’ drug usage.

Unhealthy habits promote health issues:
Unhealthy habits like alcohol and drug abuse are associated with short-term and long-term health effects. Some of the short-term consequences are watery eyes, increased heart rate, dizziness, etc. These unhealthy habits can lead to serious health risks like heart stroke, cancer, respiratory dysfunction, etc.

Even the memory, learning skills, behavior control and others are affected by illegal drug use. When taken in excessive amounts, illicit drugs may also cause sudden death. Also, driving under the influence of illicit drugs and alcohol impairs judgment, concentration and other driving skills, and can lead to fatal accidents. Drug abusing teens are also found to develop problematic behavior which disturbs their family and social life.

To maintain social and self-respect:
Teens habituated to substance abuse are often associated with fights and meaningless disputes with their peers at school. They also become aggressive and involve in criminal activities at school, home or society.

In order to maintain a respectable position in the society, you have to check for the unhealthy behavior of your kids. Explain them with certain examples showing how drug abuse leads to embarrassing events, damages self-respect and destroys important personal, professional and social relationships.

To educate the importance of healthy living:
It is necessary for you to educate your kids about the importance of healthy living which promotes both physical and mental health. As part of practicing healthy habits, you should tell them the importance of staying away from unhealthy habits like substance abuse. You can also take help from professional doctors to make your kid aware of the healthy and unhealthy lifestyle and their respective consequences.

Parents should be aware of the importance of checking the unhealthy in kids. Constant monitoring and early detection of unhealthy habits will protect them from harmful consequences.

When Aging Parents Keep Secrets

For some senior citizens, it can be difficult to accept the fact that they are aging and might not be able to keep their full independence. Because of this, there are many things that people who are reaching old age will try and keep secret from their family and friends. They might not technically lie about things but will simply withhold information or make excuses for certain behaviors. They could be afraid of losing their independence, embarrassed at their perceived downfall in intelligence or physical prowess, or just not willing to accept any help. It can be very difficult for children of aging parents to realize that their parents need help, and even more difficult to get them to agree to changes in their lifestyle.

Here are some of the top things that aging parents will keep from their children or other close relatives to avoid any consequences:

1.Auto accidents – losing the ability to drive is a major fear of many senior citizens; if they have minor accidents, fender benders or traffic violations they often wont tell their family for fear of losing their license

2.Falls – falling can be a major problem with aging parents whose sense of balance and strength can be weaker as they get older; they might hide bruising or even strains or broken bones

3.Pain or dizziness – sometimes people keep these things secret just so family members wont worry and to avoid a trip to the physician

4.Financial trouble – things such as overwhelming debt, frivolous spending, or even gambling problems are common secrets that parents keep from their families to avoid having to share their financial information and perhaps losing access to their money

5.Elder abuse – if parents already have caregivers who are mistreating them, they often hide this from family members out of fear and embarrassment; if they are taken advantage of by unscrupulous telemarketers or even other family members, they might hide this secret, too, to avoid any further trouble.

Sometimes family members must pry into the financial, emotional, or physical matters of their elderly relatives just to make sure that everything is safe and in order.

How To Live A Healthy Lifestyle And Enjoy Life

Living a healthy life style naturally calls for a healthy body, free from disease and illnesses. It also means that you enjoy a positive outlook about your life, the people in it, and the world.

A healthy lifestyle is one full of energy, without constant stress about aches and pains, and what tomorrow will bring. It’s about living in a healthy body, and enjoying the world around you.

Living a healthy lifestyle is built on these foundational steps:

Staying healthy calls for a healthy diet

A diet rich in fresh, whole foods is essential in a healthy lifestyle. When available, always choose foods found in its natural state. Fruits and vegetables have high vitamin and mineral content. Whole grains like quinoa and whole wheat bread should be consumed instead of less nutritious white varieties.

Vegetables need to make up 50-60% of your total intake of food each and every day. The more vegetables you eat, the less sugar and white flour you will crave and your immune system will help you fight off illness and give you all the energy you need.

Drink plenty of water. The old suggestion of 8 glasses as day is still what you need to keep every cell in your body healthy.

Exercise keeps your heart healthy and your body agile.

Just 30 minutes a day of movement can benefit your health by improving joint stability, increase your range of movement and flexibility, help prevent osteoporosis and fractures and improve your mood while reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean joining a gym. It can be simple things like turning off the TV for an hour and playing outdoors with your kids or taking your dog for a walk.

If you already exercise regular, add an extra lap in the pool, walk an extra turn around the block, do one more set of reps before quitting. Small increases can make a big difference.

Chores like shoveling snow, gardening, raking leaves or vacuuming and sweeping the floor are all considered a form of exercise.

Emotional Health makes all the pieces come together

Your emotional health plays a big part in a healthy lifestyle. Tune into your body to learn what causes you stress. Have a healthy social life by avoiding negative people and situations. Relaxation and meditation help release negative emotions. Listen to soothing music, meditate, breathe deep to help reduce stress.

A healthy lifestyle makes life full and large

In addition to an overall good feeling, a healthy lifestyle has many benefits. A healthy lifestyle makes life worth something to you. When you’re living conscious of your diet, sleep, exercise, and the other people you share the world with, life will take on a new and profound meaning.

A naturally healthy lifestyle can lead to a longer more productive life. You’ll feel less pain, ward off diseases and have energy like you did when you were young.
